Recently, two exceptional athletes from Altoona Area High School received recognition for their outstanding performances in their respective sports. Morgan Sarver, a sophomore forward for Slippery Rock University, was named to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference women’s soccer all-conference team. Meanwhile, five members of the Penn State Altoona women’s volleyball program were honored with postseason accolades from the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
Morgan Sarver earned a spot on the PSAC Western Division Second Team and started in all 18 of her appearances. She finished third in the PSAC in shots and fourth in shots on target, with six goals and nine assists for the Rock. She tied for second place in team offensive points at 21, leading her team to an impressive record of 12-4-3 overall.
On the other hand, five members of the Penn State Altoona women’s volleyball program picked up postseason honors from the AMCC. Lia Simanski, a freshman outside hitter who graduated from Bishop Guilfoyle High School, was selected as the newcomer of the year. Anna Batrus, a junior libero who graduated from Altoona Area High School, was a first-team All-AMCC selection. Lacee Barnhart and Simanski were both selected as second-team picks, while Makenna Port earned third-team recognition.
Simanski excelled this season and ranked among the top ten players in kills per set (2.77), kills (263), points (293.0), points per set (3.1), and digs (328) in the AMCC. Anna Batrus played a crucial role as starting libero and anchored her team’s defense while playing in all 26 matches. She led the AMCC this season in digs per set (5.55) and was second in total digs (533).
