In recent years, there have been rumors about Cristiano Ronaldo having a former teammate at Sporting who was better than him. According to reports, Fabio Paim and Ronaldo played together at the beginning of their careers. Paim stated in an interview that Ronaldo told him that he was a better player than him.
However, things took a turn for the worse when Paim was arrested on charges of drug dealing. In his interview with The Sun, he spoke about how fame and fortune had destroyed him, and how his life had taken a dark turn after his fallout with Ronaldo.
In the same interview, Paim repeated the story of Ronaldo’s supposed comment about him being better than him if he worked harder. He also claimed that he would be Messi’s main competitor for the Ballon d’Or if he put in more effort.
Ronaldo responded to these comments on social networks by saying “WTF. Who is this character?” It seems clear that the Portuguese does not remember Paim or their time together at Sporting.
According to Transfermarkt, Paim played for more than 20 clubs throughout his career and was worth up to 400,000 euros at one point while on loan at Chelsea. Despite his impressive career, it appears that Paim’s personal struggles ultimately led to his downfall.
