The Cubs have recently announced changes to their front office, including the promotion of Jared Banner to the role of assistant general manager. Sources confirm that Banner will be working under general manager Carter Hawkins and president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer. Previously, Banner served as vice president of player development for the past two years and vice president of special projects during the 2021 season.
This change comes after Craig Breslow left the Cubs to lead the Red Sox baseball operations. Breslow had been assistant GM and VP of pitching with the Cubs in recent years. In addition to Banner’s new role, the Cubs are also in search for a new farm director to fill the vacancy left by his promotion.
Under Banner’s leadership, the Cubs have built a highly-regarded farm system, earning praise from outlets like FanGraphs, MLB Pipeline, and Bleacher Report. FanGraphs ranked the Cubs as the top farm system in 2021 while MLB Pipeline and Bleacher Report placed them at 4th and 2nd in league respectively. This reorganization of the front office reflects the Cubs’ dedication to maintaining a strong player development infrastructure for future seasons.
