DuPage County Board has approved a new five-year strategic plan

Members of the DuPage County Board have spent the last 12 months working on a strategic plan to guide legislation through the end of the decade. This plan was officially passed on Tuesday, outlining the goals and wishes of both the board and the community for the future of DuPage County.

The Strategic Planning Committee, led by board member Sadia Covert, decided to focus on community services and economic development, with a goal of promoting local businesses, workforce development, and creating outreach programs for families, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities. County Board Chair Deborah Conroy expressed that this plan is crucial in ensuring that DuPage County remains prosperous and thriving for years to come.

The plan’s goals are not set in stone, and there are no consequences in place for not adhering to the priorities set forth. These priorities include community well-being, fiscal responsibility, a thriving economy, a safe community, environmental stewardship, and mobility. Leading up to the plan’s approval, there was debate within the board regarding the specific language used, showcasing the importance of each word included.

Smaller objectives within the plan, such as reducing the county’s landfill presence and expanding bike and pedestrian pathways, have garnered increased attention. Recent projects like the Solid Waste Management Plan and the DuPage County Trails Plan are paving the way for more manageable improvements in these areas. The County engaged with the community through forums, interviews, and surveys to gather input and support, ensuring that the plan reflects shared values and visions.

In summary, the DuPage County Board’s strategic plan outlines key priorities for the future of the county, focusing on community services, economic development, and sustainability. With input from both the board and the community, this plan serves as a blueprint for guiding legislation and ensuring the continued prosperity of DuPage County.
