On November 17, 2023, Governor Lamont officially recognized Environmental Health Professionals Day in the State of Connecticut. This day serves to honor and appreciate the tireless work that environmental health professionals do every day to ensure public health and safety.
As a journalist, I would like to take this opportunity to highlight the importance of their work. Clean water, fresh air, safe food supplies, and healthy places to work, learn, and live are some of the most fundamental components of public health. These elements are critical for individuals and families to lead healthy, safe lives. Environmental health professionals play a vital role in preserving these conditions by working tirelessly to mitigate known or potential environmental public health risks.
Their training and expertise allow them to apply knowledge gained through academic study and practical experience in the field. The work they do is essential for creating and maintaining healthy communities throughout our state. Their contributions touch the lives of every individual in our state both daily and during emergencies such as natural or man-made disasters.
On this day, we thank all environmental health professionals for their dedication to improving public health in Connecticut and beyond. We recognize their contributions not only on this special day but every day they work towards ensuring our communities are safe and healthy for everyone who lives there.
