After a 14-year tenure at Housemarque, Harry Krueger, renowned for his direction on titles such as Returnal and Nex Machina, has announced his departure from the studio. Although saddened by his decision, Krueger expressed great appreciation for his time at Housemarque and the opportunities it provided him to work on projects he had always dreamed of. His contributions were instrumental in the growth of the studio, transforming it from arcade games to ambitious projects like Returnal, which marked a pivotal moment for Housemarque.
Ilari Kuittinen, co-founder and CEO of Housemarque, paid tribute to Krueger’s significant impact on the development of the studio. Under his leadership, Housemarque surpassed numerous milestones, including the resurgence of the arcade genre with Returnal’s success. Kuittinen views this as an ideal opportunity for new leadership to take over and build upon the foundation laid by Krueger. With continued support from Sony, which absorbed him as an internal team in 2021, Housemarque is poised to create its next big hit – a project that will carry on the legacy and innovations established during Krueger’s era.
