On November 16, 2023, LaDonna Lynn Phelps, a beloved nurse who devoted her life to caring for others, passed away peacefully in her home in Newton Falls. Born in Elberton, Georgia on January 16, 1959, LaDonna was the daughter of Leon and Lillian Reynolds Garrett. She graduated from Elbert County High School and went on to pursue a nursing degree at Athens Technical School.
Throughout her over 30-year career as a nurse, LaDonna demonstrated a deep commitment to providing compassionate care to her patients. She retired from her last job at Victoria House in 2021, but continued to be a source of comfort and support to those around her. In her free time, she enjoyed engaging in various creative pursuits such as crocheting, sewing, baking, playing the piano, and painting pictures.
LaDonna was a devoted Christian and attended Elberton Church of God. She was also an active member of the community and volunteered her time to various charitable organizations. On April 25, 1995, she married Walter Phelps and together they raised three children: Wesley Davis and Tyler Phelps (sons) and Julie Davis (daughter). LaDonna is survived by her mother Lillian Reynolds Garrett; husband Walter; sons Wesley Davis and Tyler Phelps; daughter Julie Davis; brother Keith Garrett; sisters Saronda Reynolds Garrett Sherry Reynolds Garrett Tammie Reynolds Garrett; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Her father Leon Garrett preceded her in death.
The family requests that donations be made to the ALS Association Northern Ohio chapter in honor of LaDonna’s memory. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday November 21st at Bernard P Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls where services will be held at 6 p.m
