Ukraine is on the brink of joining the European Union (EU). In the upcoming fall, EU member countries will discuss whether to initiate negotiations with Ukraine to begin the membership process. MEP Henna Virkkunen discusses what this means for both Ukraine and the EU.

According to Virkkunen, in order for negotiations to begin, all EU countries must unanimously approve of Ukraine’s membership. The negotiation process can be lengthy and may take several years. However, Virkkunen believes that the standards for Ukraine’s potential EU membership should remain high.
