Microsoft Welcomes Former OpenAI Director to Head Up New AI Research Initiative

On Monday, Microsoft announced that Sam Altman, co-founder and former CEO of startup OpenAI, will join the company as a leader of a new AI research team. This news comes just three days after Altman was ousted from his position at OpenAI.

According to Satya Nadella, the owner of Microsoft, Altman and Greg Brockman, the other co-founder of OpenAI, will be joining colleagues at Microsoft to continue their work in the field of artificial intelligence. OpenAI developed ChatGPT, an AI tool that has gained significant attention in recent months.

Microsoft has invested heavily in OpenAI and has incorporated its technology into products such as Bing search engine. In response to his dismissal, Altman shared a statement on social network X stating that he was “moving on” and thanked his colleagues for their support. The first version of ChatGPT was launched on November 30th last year which marked the start of the race in Artificial Intelligence.
