The Consequences of Restricting Women’s Economic Advancement are Devastating

Nov 21, 2023

In his recent article for Life & Arts, published on October 21st, Tom Harford discussed the negative impact of “greedy” jobs on women’s earnings. While Harford focused on high-paying jobs, this practice also affects women who work part-time, limiting their career opportunities and undervaluing their qualifications and competences.

This has long-term effects that can hinder women’s performance and progress in their careers, despite the fact that women now outperform men educationally in many OECD countries. It is essential to recognize the broader impact of part-time work on women’s careers and to address it by implementing changes that create more equitable opportunities for women in the workforce.
