In recent weeks, a social media post claiming to be from someone working for ESPN went viral, stating that Ryan Tannehill had requested his release. However, Tannehill has since confirmed that this is not true and there have been no talks with Mike Vrabel or anyone else about his release.

Despite the false report, Tannehill is aware of the situation and expressed surprise at the reports. Although he has a desire to play, he still does not know what that will look like at this point. With the trade deadline having passed, Tannehill would need to clear waivers to sign with the team of his choice. He is currently in the final year of his contract with a $27 million base salary and a $36.6 million cap hit. As the backup in Tennessee to rookie Will Levis, Tannehill has not been active since Week 6 after injuring his ankle. However, he participated fully in Thursday’s practice and is expected to back up Levis on Sunday.

In addition to confirming that there were no release talks, Tannehill also mentioned that his high-ankle sprain is “getting close” to being healed, indicating that he is making progress in his recovery.
