Rangers lefty Brock Burke breaks hand in frustration, placed on IL after punching wall

Texas Rangers left-hander Brock Burke was placed on the injured list on Saturday with a fractured hand. Burke sustained the injury after punching a wall in frustration following a poor outing against the Houston Astros on Friday night, according to Jared Sandler of 105.3 The Fan. The 27-year-old Burke gave up four runs on three hits in just two outs during the Astros’ five-run seventh inning. The Rangers had to rely on other pitchers like Grant Anderson, David Robertson, and Kirby Yates to secure a 12-8 win.

Burke’s frustration likely stemmed from his consecutive bad appearances. In his previous outing against the Astros, he allowed a run on three hits without recording an out. The Rangers went from leading by one run to trailing by two after he took the mound.
Having racked up 116 appearances in his four-year big-league career, Burke holds a 3.88 ERA (112 ERA+) and a 3.58 strikeout-to-walk ratio. In corresponding moves, the Rangers brought veteran right-hander Austin Pruitt on board and moved infielder Justin Foscue to the 60-day injured list. Pruitt has a career ERA of 4.43 (93 ERA+) in 310 innings while Foscue injured his oblique in just his second big-league game.

As the defending World Series champions, the Rangers are currently leading the American League East with an 8-6 record at the start of the season.
