Report: Steelers to sign Cordarrelle Patterson

The Pittsburgh Steelers are making moves that show they are committed to going all-in this season. They are set to sign veteran kick returner and offensive weapon Cordarrelle Patterson to a two-year, $6 million deal, as reported by NFL Media. This signing comes on the same day the NFL announced changes to kickoffs, which could potentially lead to more kickoff returns in the future.

Cordarrelle Patterson was a first-round pick in 2013 and has played for multiple teams including the Vikings, Raiders, Patriots, Bears, and Falcons. He holds the all-time record for kickoff returns for a touchdown with nine to his name. In addition to his skills as a returner, Patterson is also a versatile offensive player, contributing as a runner and receiver.

During his time with the Falcons in 2021, Patterson had an impressive 1,166 yards from scrimmage, showcasing his ability to impact the game in multiple ways. The Steelers likely targeted him for his kickoff return abilities, especially with the new kickoff rules in place. If Patterson can take advantage of the changes and break through coverage, Pittsburgh’s opponents may soon be kicking the ball through the end zone to avoid giving Patterson a chance to make a big play on the return.
